Recycling aged silverware is a great way to save space in your kitchen cabinets. The following tips can help you turn your old silver into stylish and functional decor accessories. Silver Sunburst Mirror Use pieces of unused flatware to craft an attractive sunburst mirror for your home. You will need several pieces of old tableware, cardboard, a round plate or serving platter, a saucer or soup bowl, a hot glue gun and trimmings of your choice. Fold the piece of cardboard in half. Use a pencil or a sharpie to sketch the outline of the plate on the cardboard. Cut along the outline with a pair of craft scissors to obtain two cardboard circles. Use the hot glue gun to glue the two circles together. Wait for the glue to dry. Mark a smaller circle in the center of your cardboard circle using the saucer or soup bowl. Arrange your silverware around the small circle so that they form a sunburst pattern. Glue the flatware in place. Hot glue a circular mirror at the center of the sunburst. Embellish with decorative trimmings like beads, faux pearls, shells or marbles. Flatware Wind Chimes Old forks and spoons make the perfect components for a wind chime. You will need at least eight to 10 pieces of flatware, a spool of fishing line, a hammer and a nail, an electric drill, a hanging hook and a round piece of wood roughly eight inches in diameter. You can also use some unused glassware to add to the visual appeal of the wind chime. Cut the fishing line into different lengths. You will need about eight to 10 pieces of string, depending on the number of flatware and glassware pieces you plan to use. Use the longest pieces of string for the glassware so that they are untouched by the silverware. Use the electric drill to drill eight to 10 holes in the round wooden base. Make an extra hole exactly in the center of the base, to attach the hook. Thread the fishing line through the holes and knot one end to secure them in place. Use the hammer and nail to make holes in the handles of your flatware. Thread the loose ends of the cords through these holes and secure them. Tie the glassware to the lines by their stems. Attach the hanging hook to complete your wind chime. Recycle your old silverware and glassware using these simple and creative projects.
