How to Bring Wildlife Into Your Backyard

Advice,Gardening,Hobbies
If you have already gone so far as to create a beautiful garden, what is stopping you from making it a full-blown, thriving natural habitat full of butterflies and little critters going by. Imagine heading out to your backyard every day to find all these different creatures: squirrels, hedgehogs, chipmunks, foxes, dragonflies happily living their lives in this eco-paradise. By creating a safe haven for this wildlife, you can prevent extinction and preserve the lives of species who have lost their homes due to urban sprawl. Most wild animals seek out wildlife-friendly spaces on their own but there are many ways to attract animals if you want to bring in more “visitors” to your garden. If you are over-run with animals and they are eating your plants or attacking the smaller critters, you can always call for wildlife removal in NJ. But for the most part, if you use the right methods, these animals can co-exist peacefully and happily in your garden.

Here are a few tips for attracting wildlife to your backyard:

DEAD ROCKS & LEAVES: In the Autumn season, when the leaves fall off the trees, gather them together and leave them in a dark, wet, shaded part of your garden. Centipedes, frogs and toads love decaying leaves. This will attract them in no time. Piling up rocks and fallen branches will also attract snakes and rabbits.

POND: One of the easiest ways to attract wildlife to your backyard is with a pond. Make sure to stock it with plants and keep it clean. Frogs and newts will show up in no time!

BIRD BOXES: Boxes and feeders will bring the birds in droves. Sparrows prefer communally-living, so they like a more social box. Put black sunflower seeds, peanuts and thistle inside, so that the birds have something to eat. Also consider adding a bird bath,

WATER: Just like water is crucial for human life, it is also vital for attracting animals. Even if you have the tastiest vegetation on the block, wildlife may not show up if there is nothing to drink. Use a hose or shallow water dish to bring in butterflies and reptiles. Animals need water not only for hydration but bathing and just like you would never come to a hotel that did not have a working shower, they will not come to your house if you cannot provide them with the proper amenities. Also keep sugar water handy for hummingbirds to sip. If too many birds show up and you feel overwhelmed, you can find NJ wildlife removal experts to help you out.

SHELTER: When animals are desperate for shelter and seek refuge from predators and scary weather conditions, they will come to your backyard if you have the right set up. Try planting an array of bushes and trees of various sizes and heights so that all different kinds of creatures can find a comfortable nesting spot. Dead trees can also provide an ideal home for woodpeckers and owls.

Creating a natural habitat for wildlife creatures can be more than just a fun hobby. By providing shelter for so many different types of animals, you are doing your part to help displaced critters feel safe and well cared for. Also, this is not a life-time commitment. If ever your life gets too hectic to manage your yard, or you have to move, you can always call for wildlife removal in NJ, and a specialist will carefully transport the animals to another safe environment. You have nothing to lose!
