There are many things that we just don't know or even appreciate till we become older. This stands for many things. When I was in high school and college I got history classes since I was told I needed to to get my diploma. I had no concern in history. I would study for the tests and pass the class and get the credits and quickly disregard every little thing that was discussed in the class. I was into the here and now. When I have become older I realized that I like watching television documentaries about history. My husband and I have also discussed taking a history class at the local school in order to learn even more about the history of our state. When I was in school I was too worried about foretelling what was ahead of me that I did not care what had happened before. Once I have experienced some history in living for some time I am more interested in previous happenings. I got a similar situation with my parents and a life insurance policy. When I was sixteen my parents got a life insurance policy for me. It was a 20 year policy that would make a return on our dividends after 30 years. I remember my parents explaining to me that they would pay the life insurance premiums till I was out of school and had a full time job. At sixteen I didn't imagine this was any big deal so I just shrugged it off. When I had finished school and began a job my mom gave me all the information about the insurance coverage and informed me that it was time that I began paying the life insurance premiums. She stressed that they had paid in for six years already therefore I should continue to pay them. The life insurance premiums were extremely affordable because the policy had been obtained while I was so young. I will pay the life insurance premiums two times a year and forget about them until the next notice came. When I became married I informed the company that I had a change of name and place of residence. When I turned 36 the company sent me a letter that the insurance premiums were fully paid and I can start getting dividends on a monthly basis when I was forty six or I could let them accumulate. We were raising our family as well as working full time I didn't put in the time to look into the benefit. Now that I am seriously looking into retirement and looking at my income resources I realize what a precious gift my parents had granted me. I will be able to draw out a monthly income to supplement my retirement plan. In hind sight I wish I would have done the same for my kids.
