LUMINAIRES FOR BATHROOMS
New legislation has been introduced regarding Luminaries for Bathrooms Section 701 of BS7671 : 2008 (IEE Wiring Regulation) has been revised and a synopsis is printed below to assist with your choice of Bathroom lighting
ZONE 0
This is the interior of the bathtub or shower tray. We do not supply luminaries for this zone.
ZONE 1
This is the area directly above the bath or shower tray to a height of 2.25M above the floor. Protection required is a minimum of IPX4 (splash proof) for normal domestic use.
ZONE 2
a) This is the area over the bathtub or shower tray above zone 1.
b) This is the area external to zone 1 and extends to a vertical plane 0.6M external to zone 1 to a height of 2.25M. Protection required is the same as
zone1.
ZONE3
This zone is no longer defined and is just "Outside Zones". Protection required is IP20 for normal domestic use.
We recommend that you consult a qualified electrician to ensure that the wiring and supply are protected in accordance with the regulations.
The above does not apply to communal baths and showers where jets of water are used for cleaning purposes.
