In his address to the country and the newly elected People'sAssembly on Sunday, Bashar al-Assad termed recent Houla crisis- aresult of conspiracy against Syria. He laso made strikinglycontrasting remarks against opposition and world leaders' claim forinvolvement of government behind Houla massacre, saying :"Atthis time, we are facing a war from abroad. Dealing with it isdifferent from dealing with people from inside." According to CNN report. during his speech, heavy shelling rainedon the anti-government bastion of Homs, as a result, four peoplewere reported killed in Homs, Aleppo and Hama. Oppositionactivisits also reported that a large military convoy of about 45trucks carrying tanks, armored personnel and soldiers has beenobserved marching towards Deir Ezzor during al-Assad's speech. In his 70 minutes speech, he insisted,"the battle is forcedupon us." and announced amnesty for those who stop fighting,he added "I encourage all of those who are hesitant to droptheir weapons at once, and the government will not seek revenge nowor later, We forgave others who stood against us in the past." In response to al-Assad's address, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud AlFaisal said the current stand of Syrian regime is supportingsecretarian voilence. He added, "The Syrian opposition lacksthe means to defend itself, and the regime is getting weapons fromeverywhere. For a while now, we noticed that the regime has beentrying to turn the crisis into a sectarian conflict." It is pertinent to mention that Syrian violence started 15 monthsago. According to United Nations' statistics more than 9,000 peoplehave been killed uptill now but according to opposition activists'claim, the death toll is more than 12,000 to more than 14,000.
