There are different ways to distinguish crude, for instance if crude has low-density, then it's termed as light, while another with high-density is heavy. The amounts of sulphur also classify crude, such as crude having relatively little sulphur is sweet whilst sour if it consists of significant amounts of sulphur. Light crude is considered better than heavy oil because it can be used to produce more petrol. Sweet crude have smaller amounts of environment effects compared to sour crude, which has more sulphur content. Therefore, later require more refining to meet sulphur standards imposed on fuels in other crude consuming countries.
