It’s sometimes easy to take for granted the rather impressive amount of options we have for housing and consumer design. San Antonio for instance should be a city that appreciates the modern amount of selections in housing. It wasn’t that long ago (historical perspective) that every house in the area had a clay or stone floor. Then wooden flooring was introduced to the area more recently and now there are so many options that someone looking to update their home flooring in San Antonio might get overwhelmed. It’s evidence of the myriad of ways our lives have changed in the past few hundred years. Things that were once luxury goods of the first order are now consumer products. What was once the height of fashion is now considered gauche and may soon become retro and trendy. It wasn’t that long ago that in many parts of the United States, not just San Antonio, people didn’t have an option over their flooring. It was wood with maybe a throw rug if you were doing well for yourself. Now a home owner has to make a few decisions before making a decision. Do they want carpet? Stone tile? Linoleum tiles? Faux wood tiles? Real wood? Then after making that decision the color, and pattern must be picked out to match the feel and look of the room. If it’s carpeting they have to decided how thick and plush they want it, if they want anything of a pattern in it. If you go with tile you have another wide spectrum of choice. Even with something that might seem straightforward like wood flooring you have to pick out the type of the wood, its arrangement and how it’s stained. The point is that even within each choice from the first set there are thousands to millions of other choices to make, and that’s not even factoring the options of how to install or pay for it. Because you have payment options you can reach outside your price range a bit. It’s not always obvious the ways our lives have changed from that of our ancestors. We tend to focus on the big changes like electronics or political freedoms, but ignore the small market freedoms that have combined to change our lives in a myriad of ways. You might not think of the flooring options in San Antonio as a great pillar of modern freedoms. It does however show a strong example of how modern society allows us so many different choices that we have more material freedoms than we’ve ever had. It also gives perspective on how much modern society has really changed from just a few hundred years ago. For more information visit: http://www.list-your-sites.org/home-improvement-interiors/
