How to Do in the Face of the Introverted Child


 
Education
Each person’s character is not the same, and the children are the same. As educators, we must respect this difference, and on the basis of respect, we should play the educational role of the kindergarten environment, so that make the children live happily in the collective environment of kindergarten.

At the beginning of the semester, a freshman joins in our class; she looks pale and beautiful, and very cute. However, her character is introverted, and timid, and she does not love interacting with other children. Her name is Lily. When she joins into the kindergarten, her parents said to us: “Lily is very quiet, and she is very introverted.” We also find in the observation, she often likes to be left along, and play her own, never communicate or contact to other children. To this end, we have thought many ways to help her, in addition to more caring for her, or encouraging her, and we are conscious to let the outgoing kids take the initiative to play with her, but these methods are not showing the desired results.

However, in an activity of parents open day, I accidentally found that Lily was playing checkers with her grandmother. I went up to watch for a while, and found that Lily did well. I was surprised to say: “Well done! Lily is so good. I would like to play checkers with you.” After listening to my words, Lily’s face showed happy smile. Since then, to the time of the regional activities, I invited Lily to play checkers together. In this way, a crowd of children are attracted, and they praise Lily. And even some children would like to play checkers with Lily, and then Lily begins to have her own partners. See this, we have got some comfort.

Therefore, Lily’s personality gradually begins to change, from never speak in the morning to take the initiative to loudly say hello to teachers, and she can play with other children from being alone, and she gradually becomes bold. Now, in the class, she can take the initiative to interact and play games with children; when in outdoor activities, she also exercise in front of the kids; in the teaching activities, she can loudly answer the questions loudly in front of the children and teachers, so she gradually turns into a cheerful and generous girl.

In the face of these introverted children, I think that the teacher should give them fully time and space to adapt, and carefully observe and develop their strengths, to meet psychological needs. At the same time, we should give them more opportunity to communicate among children.
