Whatever type of retail store you own the window is your vital means of communicating and sending a message to the outside world. Even if you offer a service rather than a product like a hairdressers or beautician it is essential that you get your window display right in order to generate further business and welcome visitors into your store. An effective window display will be eye-catching, thought provoking, whilst clearly stating the product or service you sell. This can be difficult to achieve especially if creativity is not one of your strong points. Often it is helpful to get some ideas by looking at the window displays of your partners and competitors. For some really striking designs check out the window displays of high street fashion stores. These are often particularly imaginative because most clothes stores face massive competition from other similar stores located on the same street or even directly adjacent. Some clothes retailer’s window displays are like works of art. In fact many major stores will even commission an artist to design and sculpt the most eye-catching display on the high street to draw the customers in. Before you begin to piece together your window display it is a good idea to create a design and mood board to get an idea of the image you want to convey. Often the best window displays use a combination of flat display boards and objects and pieces. You may want to use drawings and artwork for your displays or striking photography or even a combination of the two. Unless you are naturally artistic it may be a good idea at this stage to hire the services of a designer to come up with a final look. When choosing your display boards you will have the option of ground mounted, hanging or cable-mounted displays. Cable mounted displays can be a little tricky to assemble but they offer greater flexibility and a neat finish that leaves the boards rigid yet suspended in your window. You may want to use single large panels as a backing to your window or a series of smaller panels to break up a design. Alternatively you could use a variety of sizes with spaces that enable passers by to peer into your store. Lighting is another important factor, especially during the winter months. You may want to use natural light to illuminate your display during the day but if your store is in a darkened street or north facing it may be necessary to light your window during the day as well. There is a range of window displays to choose from online. Find them alongside other display fittings like leaflet holders and banner stands.
