Sectional garage doors first came about in the USA in the 1930's. They are generally made up of between 4 to 6 panels; they can be made from metal, fiberglass or wood, and can even contain a small glass or Perspex panel, this is ideal to let light in to a garage if it is being used as a spare bedroom or guest room. This is a very attractive looking door as the panels are a lot deeper than typical roller shutter doors; hence it doesn't have that "industrial look" about it. Although not the cheapest type of garage door, these doors do add value to the overall look of your property. The panels are hinged together, allowing each panel to move independently of each other. On the garage itself you will have a vertical track fitted on both sides of the garage door; this track will hold each side of the door. The sections of the door are all hinged together, this allows the doors to raise and lower to a 90 degree angle, formed by the roof and the front of the garage. Choosing a Seceuroglide Excel Garage Door This depends on your budget. Obviously a manual door is a lot cheaper, but do you really want to be lifting the door up and down several times a day. It's far better to get an automated door with a remote control so you can gain access to your garage without even having to leave the car. The electric doors have a smooth "jerk free" mechanism that lifts and lowers the door in seconds. Obviously if a person is in bad health and/or they are elderly, then the electric version would be better. Sadly very few of these sectional garage doors are manufactured here in the UK. Germany and Sweden are big players in this door market. However your local tradesman would probably be able to get hold of these doors if they don't have them in stock. Check with your local trade directory to see if you have anyone locally who can supply and fit them. Failing that you could check the Internet for your nearest stockiest.
