A common misconception is that clothes are the easiest things to pack for a move but this is not true. If you don't pack your clothing properly, it is sure to get wrinkled during the move. In addition, if you just pack the items one after the other, then the boxes can end up being very heavy. Plus you would not like to dig through your boxes looking for something to wear right after you move in. Here are some tips that will help you pack your clothing properly before your move: - It is better to get rid of stuff you will never wear again. Simply get rid of clothing that has shrunk, faded, or was a bad purchase. Outdated and worn out clothing should also be discarded before the move.
- Plan sometime ahead by packing a separate bag that will contain clothes which you will wear the week after you move. That will prevent you from searching in boxes for something to wear in your new home.
- Clothes should be packed according to seasons. Out-of-season clothes should be packed first and then the other items should be put inside the boxes. If you are moving during winter, pack the summer clothes first. Similarly, if you are making a move in summer, then make sure that jackets and coats are packed first.
- It is better to pack your clothes in luggage before you put them in boxes. Use extra suitcases for the purpose as they are much sturdier than a box for transporting clothing. Delicate clothing should be packed in suitcases instead of boxes.
- Under no circumstances should jewelry be packed in with clothes. There are high chances of your valuables being lost.
- Shoes should be packed separately to keep your clothes clean.
- Don't use clothes as means for padding fragile items. Both the clothes and the fragile items might be damaged in the process. There is separate padding material available for the purpose.
- Formal dresses or suits should always be packed in garment bags or fortified wardrobe boxes.
