I never imagined I would be the type of girl who would fall in love with an Army man. However, as I've learned many times in my life thus far, I cannot predict my own future. While I was in college, my good friend and I did everything together. She had been dating the same man for many years, and this man was in the Army. When he was overseas, she would often spend a lot of time with me, as she was unable to see or talk to her boyfriend. When he returned from the middle east, he introduced a new man to our circle of friends. I was immediately drawn to this man, and learned that he had served overseas with my best friend's boyfriend. Because this man was new to our area, he did not know many other people. Subsequently, he invited me to a formal dinner hosted by the Army, and I agreed. Many months later, this man and I became engaged and shortly after our wedding, he was reassigned to an Army base in the south. I had not been interested in living in the south, but I was willing to go with him wherever he desired, as I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. I had previously been unsure how I felt about him being in the Army, but I realized quickly that I truly respected what he did as a profession, and I enjoyed being a part of his life. I was proud to be his wife, and knew I would quickly become acclimated in the south. Because I was new to the idea of Army housing, I decided I would do some research online. I had heard that Army housing was actually quite lovely, and that all of the families involved with the Army lived in their own community. I was quite excited about Army housing because I realized I would be able to make friends quickly with different wives of Army men. After doing some research on Army housing, I realized that housing was one of the Army's top concerns. While reviewing this section of the website, I found that this website also provided different floor plans of these homes, and also had a separate site with different photographs of these homes. I was comforted by the fact that the Army placed high value on Army housing, as they found it to be an important place for each individual and family. While we did not have an animal in our family yet, I knew that a dog was going to be in our future, so I was able to find housing that allowed this possibility. After doing some more research, I found that these homes also often provided dishwashers, washers and dryers and even a good sized yard. These homes were parts of communities that shared in the same lifestyle, which was extremely important to me. After spending an evening reading about Army housing, I realized that there wasn't anywhere I wouldn't go with my husband, as I knew we would be taken care of no matter what. After moving to the south, I found our Army housing to be the most pleasant move I had ever dealt with, and we were extremely welcomed into the community. I had never imagined I would marry an Army man, but I cannot picture life outside of the Army now. I have been able to feel confident about starting our family in this community, as I know that no matter where my husband goes, we will have a wonderful support system in this wonderful community.
