How To Cross Stitch - Tips For A More Efficient Cross Stitching

Crafts,Hobbies
Cross stitching is a rewarding hobby. It lets you put your artistry and creativity in the patterns you cross stitch. If you create amazing cross stitch pieces, you can have them framed to display in your home or even sell to other for extra money. Nonetheless, cross stitching may seem a rather time-consuming hobby to pursue. Yet, there are some tips you can find on how to cross stitch efficiently and quickly.

Work On Your Spare Time

It is true that it is best to cross stitch at a time you can exclusively dedicate to the hobby. However, you may also use your spare time to continue working on a particular project, rather than spend time doing nothing. For this, you may bring your project at work or in school. During your lunch break, you may still have some time left after eating. Make sure the cross stitch project is covered with a dust sheet so it will remain clean and organized in between sessions.

Cut An Appropriate Length Of Floss

As a beginner cross stitcher, you may think that you should cut a longer length of floss so that you would not need to rethread often. Nevertheless, there is a risk in cutting your floss too long. Too long a thread can cause it to tangle easily. If this happens, you might not only need to rethread, but also repeat your work from the start. Ideal length of floss to cut is 16-18 inches.

Divide Into Individual Threads

The length of a thread may have numerous threads in it. Ideally, flosses come in 6-ply threads. Depending on the kind of weave you are doing, you can reduce or add the number of threads that you will use. For a tighter weave, you may separate the six threads into three sets of two threads. For a looser weave, you may use two sets with three strands.

Straighten the Floss

If can happen that the floss will become bent or folded; and using it as it is can affect the appearance of your project. The trick in straightening the floss is not to iron it. Instead, you simply need to dampen the length of the twisted floss. Get a clean washcloth to carefully get this task done. Separate each strand from one another. Let them lay flat on a clean table or surface and reassemble them once they have completely dried.

Work Consistently

Your style and manner of cross stitching will have an impact on your work. Thus, you have to be consistent in making your stitches. Make certain that all stitches are in one direction.

Deal With Knots

Both beginners and experienced hobbyists get knotted threads. To avoid tangling and knotting, this is what you can do. After making a few stitches, allow the needle (still with the thread) to hang loosely. The needle would spin around. In case you still get a knot, you simply place the blunt tip of the needle at the center of a knot to push the thread. If this still does not do the trick, just trim your thread.

Arabic Islamic Cross Stitch Patterns is a resource that can provide you with unique patterns for your hobby. Cross Stitch Made Easy is also a similar book on cross stitching that can help in creating fantastic masterpieces.
