I first heard about Boostability from my cousin Matthew. He worked there part-time while he was finishing his degree in computer science. Matthew and I have always been really close, so it was not unusual for him to tell me all about his day at work. I did not know that there was such a thing as a search engine optimization company. But the more I learned about them, the more I thought that it all made sense. After all, consumers rely heavily on search engines. I know that I personally rarely go past the second page of the Google list. The first thing Matthew taught me was how search engines work. He told me that companies such as Google and Yahoo send out probes called spiders that search for key words and then related content. When I type "Mexican restaurant" into a search engine it compiles the information from the spiders sent out and gives me the best list of what they think I am looking for. I told Matthew that whoever came up with the spider technology had to be pretty smart. There is very little time between when I put in my subject to when I receive a list of links. The links that are clicked on the most stay higher on the search engine page. Boostability's job is to help their clients optimize their websites and get higher on the search engine's lists. Hence the name of search engine optimization. Matthew told me that there are several ways that Boostability will help their clients do this. They can help build the client's website, giving advice on marketing and content. They also write content for their clients. I was really impressed that this company will help anyone. From what Matthew said, it seemed like they actually specialized in small business optimization. I started putting in names of companies in my town to see where they appeared. I noticed that my husband's firm was not on the first page. I told Matthew that I needed him to come to dinner so that he could talk to Jim about Boostability. Jim works for his dad and I really want their contracting firm to succeed. If that means that they need to hire a SEO company, than that is what they should do. Matthew and Jim had a pretty good talk. I think that Jim really appreciated that Matthew was not trying to sell him on the search engine optimization; I was already doing that. Matthew was just telling Jim about his job. Anyway, Jim asked if Matthew had any reviews of the company, testimonials from other companies who had used their service. We checked out Boostability's website to read their information. Then Jim wanted to see if there were other Boostability reviews on the Internet. We found out that they have a Better Business Bureau account. The BBB review was very interesting. I had never checked out a company there before, so I didn't know what to expect. Boostability had a pretty good rating. The BBB did give positive and negative information on the ratings system. Their website said that one of the reasons for a lowering the rating would have been how long the business was operating. That was kind of silly to me, because any search engine optimization company is not going to have been around for a long time. This is a new field that is just beginning to grow. Some of the positive values to the rankings were the way the company responded to complaints and were able to resolve all of the complaints they have had against them. Jim said that the resolved complaints show that Boostability took customer service seriously. That really impressed him; Jim is big on customer service. I hope that Jim will talk to his dad about getting a better website for their contracting company and hopefully using a search engine optimization company like Boostability to enhance their presence on the web. I just want them to succeed, and in this economy I feel that you have to find new ways to market yourself.
