The public apology happened on Friday in the form of an open letter written by Apple CEO Tim Cook to the customers that expressing their dissatisfaction acknowledged widespread complaints about the company's new Maps application. In his letter Cook wrote “At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.” It is just a short part of the letter. Having used Google mapping data during the period of five years, Apple decided to change the direction and went with the iOS 6 update to its mobile operating system. On September 19 the update was applied to millions of iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch devices. The new Apple Maps was also built into all iPhone 5s, which appeared on the market a week ago. Apple Maps happened to be supplied by significantly less data than its predecessor which caused discontent of consumers. According the words of Tim Cook who noted that now Apple has to create a new version of Map and do it from the ground up as Google, the maps of which include most of such features as turn-by-turn navigation, voice integration and a cool new 3D "Flyover" in its Android smartphone software, refused to hand those features over to Apple. That was widely reported in different other resources. The CEO promised that Apple engineers would keep on "working non-stop" for Maps to become "high standard" and recommended Apple product owners meanwhile to use such applications as Microsoft, Bing, AOL's, MapQuest, Nokia (NOK), Waze, and even Google.
