So, you have found the perfect wedding dress and made the commitment to buy it. Next you’ll need to arrange the alterations for your wedding dress so that it fits perfectly on your big day. Most brides, regardless of their size need some alterations to their dress whether it’s taking it up a few inches or taking it in. It’s important that you are sized correctly before your wedding dress is ordered. Many brides have been ordered the wrong size and then once the dress comes there is little time to change things – remember, a wedding dress can be taken in, but rarely can it be let out. Many brides also choose to lose weight before having their first wedding dress fitting. You don’t have to. It’s a matter of personal preference really. As well as your wedding dress, you will want to organise alterations to your bridesmaid dresses. It’s handy to have the same person handle all dress alterations so that you can collect the dresses at the same time and deal with the same person. It’s also a great opportunity to get together with the girls every time you need to go for a new measuring session. You will usually need to attend 2-3 fitting sessions. The last one is the most exciting as this is the last time you will wear your wedding dress before your big day. This is also when they person doing your alterations will ensure that your dress fits you perfectly – no cakes or sweets before your wedding as you can’t afford to put any weight on! Finding a good seamstress is important and should be sorted out a few months before the wedding as this profession can be quite busy especially during wedding season. Speak to your wedding dress shop if you are finding it hard to find the right person. They will either have their own in-house alterations expert or can put you in touch with the perfect person.
