It's strange sometimes, how writing can affect your life and mood. You can have no intention to write - be it by choice, lack of motivation or Muse Strike. When you suddenly find yourself in the midst of a writing frenzy, unable to stop to save your life. Earlier today I had virtually no energy. So much so that I had resigned myself to just laying on the couch chilling, listening to music. It had been a couple of months since I'd last written something, not that I was worried about that - I have been known to go several months without writing anything more than a shopping list. It's no big deal to me whether I write or not - I do it for fun, not profit or to a deadline. I was actually enjoying the 'down time'... it has been quite some time since I had time to just 'veg-out' and do absolutely nothing without any distractions. Needless to say I was quite surprised (and little irked) when I had this strange feeling to pick up a pen and paper. It meant that I'd have to get up just as I had gotten comfortable and the thought "I don't even know what I'm going to write" running through my head didn't help matters. It's obvious now that the Muse had hit with a vengeance. The moment I sat back down with pen and paper in hand, words just started to jump out onto the page. While I was writing, working the piece out, it was like an energy shock - not quite like an adrenalin rush, but something was pumping through my veins, I can still feel it. Don't get me wrong, it is a great feeling. I guess it happens whenever I write a poem or story. I have just never really noticed it before. It got me to thinking... Why that is? Is it normal? Am I the only one who feels it? Do I always feel so drained before I write something? Or does it only happen after a writing 'drought'? Should I be scared? Worried? Happy? Does anyone else have this feeling? Is it even possible to have a Writing High? Perhaps this is why I get so...what's the word...edgy (?) when I haven't written for a long period of time. Like I'm like a junkie waiting for the next hit... Do they have a support group for this ... like Writers' Anonymous (WA) or something? ... Hi, my name's Chyna and I'm a write-a-holic....maybe I'm just losing it...or perhaps my over active imagination is taking control again.... communication and media research papers
