Up until recently, I only read what I wanted to read. However, when I retrained my mindset, I actually saw mind-numbing topics in a new light. Retraining the mind does take practice and one way it can be done is through repetitive action. The more you practice, the better you will become. In fact, reading about unfamiliar topics actually expands the mind. 1. With freelance writing I would say start small. Do not set your goals too high yet, Just get your foot through the door. Do not even worry about the money either. Take whatever jobs you feel comfortable with, but don't limit yourself to writing about what you know. (Not at this stage anyway). An experienced freelance writer is one who can write about, any topic and write as though they are an expert. 2. Many clients place meeting deadlines as top priority, because they too have deadlines to meet. If you know you will not be able to make the submission date, then inform your manager. It is therefore advisable to weigh up the assignment beforehand by looking at your current situation. Even your present state of mind plays some part. If mentally, you are not up to it, then say so. It would save a lot of heartache later. 3. With your first gig, you may know a few days in advance what you will be writing about. If so, read anything you can on the topic, and make notes in preparation. Once you have the assignment research in depth, but try not to get too carried away, instead set yourself a time limit. For example, spend around three hours on researching ten articles. Please note, this is only a guideline. You can set your own guidelines, according to your needs. 4. Do not worry about the number of words whilst you're writing. Sometimes it's tempting to write, then check the word count, then write again. It's so disheartening when you think you have written enough, but you haven't. It's easier to reduce the number of words, than to add them in. 5. At some point, set up a web page with a portfolio of your work. This makes it easier for a prospective client to see instantly your writing quality and style. You can even make yourself some quick money by offering articles for sale, giving away exclusive rights to the articles. This can create serious demand, because web owners constantly need articles, to promote their business. You can learn from the above points, and any textbooks on the market, but any freelance writer will tell you that the best way to learn is by experiencing the exciting world of freelance writing yourself. custom essay
