You don't have to write for a major magazine or newspaper publication to make money as a freelance writer. The ratio of people submitting articles to major publications to the space that the publications have to put freelance articles is overwhelming. No matter how well you write, your chances of a major publication purchasing your articles are very slim. On the internet, however, there are hundreds of thousands of web sites that need articles written for them and not enough writers to write them. Your chances of getting work writing articles for these web sites are great, even if you aren't the best writer in the world. But you do have to be a good writer to make money as a freelance writer. If you are a good writer, and you want to make money as a freelance writer, how can you find clients on the internet who will purchase your articles? Do you write the articles first and then approach the web site owners? While this certainly might work, you won't make much money this way. The reason is that most web site owners have a particular idea in mind of what they want to have written. They will provide you with these ideas, along with keywords and titles that they want you to use sometimes. Other times they will give you a topic and give you complete freedom to write what you want about that topic. But if you already have something written and it doesn't appeal to the web site owner, he may not even consider you for a project that he does need done. There are web sites that hook up web site owners (clients) and freelance writers so that they can find work much more easily than contacting each owner individually. You will need to register for the web sites so that the owners can find you, and you can also bid on projects that they post for public bidding. The biggest thing to remember is don't bid too much more or too much less than others are bidding on the same types of projects. You can usually find out what others are bidding by browsing the projects. Often in the project description the client will state what they want to pay and you would bid that amount in order to be considered for the job. Another thing to remember is not to take on too many projects at one time. If you do, the quality of your work will show it because you will always be in a hurry to get the articles done. You will also end up missing deadlines, which are very important to the clients. These clients communicate and you can build up quite a good, or quite a bad, reputation as a freelance writer just by the quality of work that you submit.
