Jonathan Thie is proud to be celebrating two years since he earned his Professional Tennis Management Degree at Tyler Jr. College in Tyler, Texas. For Thie, a lifelong tennis player, the degree has taken him from the level of player to behind-the-scenes professional. “With my Professional Tennis Management Degree, I can work with the game I love in a more intimate way than ever before,” says Jonathan Thie. “Though I still love playing and instructing, I’m having a lot of fun with the administrative and business side of the game.” Jonathan Thie currently works at Black Hills Tennis Center as the Assistant Head Tennis Professional. The position (which Thie believes he was able to earn largely because of his recent degree) requires a smart business mind, organizational skills, and serious dedication to the game. However, the Professional Tennis Management Degree is not the first degree that Jonathan Thie has been awarded. In 2006, Thie earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Family Consumer Sciences and Hotel/Restaurant Management from South Dakota State University. After graduating from SDSU, Jonathan Thie spent two and a half years working in the hotel and restaurant management field. The then spent a brief year working in the furniture sales business. “After all of that,” says Jonathan Thie, “I started to fall back in love with one of my oldest passions: tennis. I started to think more seriously about making a career out of it. I had played growing up and through a lot of college, but it had kind of fallen by the wayside once my career got going. Now, I’m so glad I decided to pursue the sport again.” Jonathan Thie believes that his degree from Tyler Jr. College is one of the most significant steps he’s taken toward becoming the person he is today. He’s proud to be celebrating the two-year anniversary this year of earning the Professional Tennis Management degree.
