As the volume and availability of customer data increases day by day, companies are turning to customer database to help them identify the tastes and preferences of particular target markets so as to create more relevant offerings and improve the efficiency of marketing. Customer or consumer database is defined as software that is used to integrate the information stored in the database, to provide easy accessibility to the call center agents and customers. The software helps in reducing the number of calls directed towards the call center, with the use of alternative channels enabled by the software. Customer or consumer databases consolidate customer information across an organization to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty. This gives businesses complete insight into their clients and customers and helps front-line employees make faster, better informed decisions. Marketers use the data to learn more about customers, select target markets for specific campaigns (through customer segmentation), compare customers' value to the company and provide more specialized offerings for customers. User database or mostly known as marketing database is an organized approach to the gathering, consolidation and processing of consumer data (both for customers and potential customers) that is maintained in a company's databases. The use of such kind of relational database is to enhance marketing productivity through more effective acquisition, retention, and development of customers. It’s true that databases are the unseen workhorses of many organizations’ IT systems, holding critical business intelligence. In many ways, database programs have become a commodity. Products vary on price, performance, ease of database administration and functionality. Unlike other work functions, data collection must be absolute and precise. As such, certain businesses have very dissimilar needs from others. Particularly when a database revolves in some way around money, it is extremely important that a consumer know the capabilities and limitations of their database software. Not all businesses are the same and not all companies or individuals have the same requirements. As different kinds of database software available in present market, choosing the right software may be a daunting task for many. So, proper research is important prior to purchasing any database software.
