Autumn Style: How to Wear a Boyfriend's Coat

Fashion & Cosmetics

The nights are getting longer, the mornings are getting chillier and there is that distinctive scent of crisp leaves and wood smoke in the air. Autumn is coming and with it come the chic and cosy autumn fashions.

One of the essential wardrobe items that you will for autumn is a comfortable and warm coat. This season, the trend is towards the boyfriend coat which is a slightly oversized and boxy style jacket. It is called a boyfriend coat because it will remind you of when your man lent you his jacket on your first date when you were feeling the chill. There is something very comforting and romantic in wearing a big, comfortable slouchy coat and this outerwear option allows for all sorts of comfortable layering when the weather turns colder.

The boyfriend coat has a number of stylish masculine touches, such as traditional patterns, large pockets and a double-breasted shape. When it is worn well, this coat will help you walk the fine line between masculine and dainty and give you an androgynous look which will take you from day to night.

If you don’t have a boyfriend, or yours won’t let you steal his coat, don’t worry. There are plenty of adorable boyfriend jackets available online so that you can get one of your very own. The challenge when wearing a 674425]&noOfRefinements=1>boyfriend coat, is to look cute and cosy without going too far and looking like a slob in a baggy coat.

With this look, you can add a few more boyish pieces to create a totally androgynous style, such as a bulky watch, tailored dress trousers, lace up oxfords and a fedora. On the other hand, you can also contrast the masculine style of the boyfriend coat by wearing it with very sweet and feminine pieces such as a frilly dress and high heels.

The boyfriend jacket also works well with the nautical themed look which is so in this year. The jacket can go over a striped top with tailored pants on the bottom and flirty espadrilles. If the look of the boyfriend coat is too baggy and shapeless for you and you feel that it is hiding your figure, you can try adding a belt to the middle of the jacket.

Although the boyfriend coat is meant to be oversized, it should still fit you well. The coat should sit below your hip at least 2-3 inches instead of hanging all the way down your thigh. You can even wear this style of outwear on a glamorous autumn night out when you need to keep warm. The boyfriend blazer, paired with a little black dress, some sexy pumps and tights to keep your legs warm, looks upscale and sophisticated.

You can also wear the boyfriend jacket in a much more casual way, simply by pairing with a cute and simple t-shirt and a statement necklace and you are good to go.
