Queens is abuzz after snippets of news related to the possibility of a Major League Soccer stadium opening in the area. A three-way battle is on among the city, state & Major League Soccer officials to build a 25,000 capacity professional soccer stadium. The New York Bulls play at Harrison, New Jersey. Queens will surely be home to a new team. Some local leaders have welcomed the plans with open arms and view this as an opportunity for more jobs in the area. People will also get the chance to see excellent soccer coaching and soccer skills. State Senator Jose Peralta enthusiastically canvasses for the project & says, 'Major League Soccer's impact in the area would be enormous. As for the economics, we are talking about over 2,000 constructions jobs and about 1,000 full time jobs when the stadium is ready. You can see. It's not all about soccer". Major League Soccer is firmly behind the plans. In a statement issued they say, "Major League Soccer is firmly committed to ensuring that the 20th team in the league will have its roots in New York City. We are excited about the chance to bring the World's sports to the World's park". The existing soccer coaching facilities & fields are in state of dilapidation. MLS has committed that renovation of these fields figure high on its priority list. Soccer enthusiasts have welcomed this move with rapturous applause. "If the plans materialize, it would not just be fantastic for our kids but also for Flushing Meadow Park. It will be good for Queens and also will be great for the development of soccer in this country", enthuses Luis Montoya, of the Big Apple Youth Soccer League. On the other hand, these plans have drawn widespread criticism. Arrangements are in place to fill the former Pool of Industry, remnants from the 1964 World Fair. The Flushing Meadows - Corona Park, all of Nine acres is being eyed for big things. Park advocates argue that the public space in the city is being over-developed and lot of the green space will give way to concrete structures. Geoffrey Croft, NYC Park Advocates says, "This is a park and it has to stay that way. We have seen repeatedly that the administration takes sides with commercial development and robs us of our limited green space. There already are plenty of soccer facilities.
