Every entrepreneur throughout the history of business is on a constant hunt for the fastest, most cost effective way to promote his or her business. You are too, am I right? There are myriad of ways to boost your awareness and expert status in your market. While networking, direct mail, and events are all great ways to sound the trumpets about you and your business there are only two that are, in this Mavens opinion, the most effective. Speaking is the #1 way to connect your brand to your market and show-off the personality (you) behind the business - you are after all your own best spokesperson. A close second is writing. What better way to leverage your knowledge, share your point of view and philosophy with others, give back to your market through value rich content and position yourself as an expert and leader in your field, all in one document. The trouble is many small business entrepreneurs believe they have to be stellar writers to get started. Not true. Once you get your ideas on paper, you can easily and affordably have your work proofed by a professional editor that will take your article and make it flow beautifully. 1. Get your ideas on paper. When I'm asked what to write about, I always share with clients to pay attention to their clients and customers. Every time they present you with a challenge their facing, and seek your professional counsel, you have the makings for an article on your hands. The key is to begin paying attention to what is being said, and not said as it relates to what you do. With that knowledge, you'll find you have plenty of topics to write about. Don't feel you need to write a full-blown article your first time around. You can start with a simple tip sheet. Here's what you do: Create a headline that matters to your audience like, "5 Tips for Increased Energy In 60 seconds...or Less ", "3 Traps Every Home Buyer Should Avoid..." Assign one bullet point for each tip and start writing your ideas and recommendations. If you're a much better talker than writer, record your tips. You can use a nifty recording service to do this easily. After you set up your account, call your special number from any phone and start talking! You'll now have an MP3 file you can either transcribe from or send to a transcriber to do it for you. Voila...you have your first article. Oh and by the way, you also have an audio minute you can offer as a complimentary download on your website. Leverage, leverage, leverage. 2. Disciplining yourself to write. You can have all the ideas in the world but if you don't make a concerted effort to put them on paper and then out into the world, no one will benefit from your passion, your purpose and expertise. Grab your calendar...do that right now okay...and identify one day a week that you'll devote to writing. View this as self-promotion time, which you'll want to build as a part of your overall marketing activity calendar. Then time block a period of no less than two hours - this is now your dedicated writing time. Two hours may seem a bit long to you but trust me, once you find your groove, you'll find this time goes by quickly! Be sure to use a timer to keep you on track. 3. Get your work out there. Alright you have your first article. Now what? Leverage that article by placing it in a number of places to give you the best reach in your market and visibility. Some places to use that article are: Your own ezine (electronic newsletter): You have one don't you? If not, enlist the help of an ezine set up service. For a small investment, you can have your ezine up and running in no time. A print newsletter: While more costly, if you have a nice design you can certainly use your article in a mailed newsletter providing your market with tips, strategies and other valuable insights. Other electronic or print publications: Identify targeted print or electronic newsletters, magazines, and newspapers and submit your article - publishers are often looking for good content to fill their pages. Before you do this however, please be sure you've reviewed their submission guidelines and followed them to the letter. There is nothing more annoying to a publisher or editor then receiving an article that clearly does not fit their needs. Your website: If you aren't posting your articles on your site, do so. When someone visits you online, it's a wonderful way of gifting them valuable information while showcasing your knowledge and expertise. Writing can do so much for your business and create incredible brand buzz. And, if your article or tips are timeless, they'll be accessible for years to come. Pick up a pen, keyboard or recording device and put your knowledge to work for you. Happy writing! buy dissertation
