The Grand Canyon is unique; there's nowhere else quite like it. Millions of people flock to the canyon each year to me mesmerized by its immense size and spectacular scenery. Many people who visit Grand Canyon National Park can't wait to go back again. The canyon is such a special and magical place to visit, people just can't wait to return. Each time I go there, I see something new. The Grand Canyon is an exhilarating, inspirational place and I'm always enthusiastic about visiting because I never know what I'm going to find! The Grand Canyon was gouged out of solid rock by the waters of the Colorado River. At 18 miles wide, 277 miles long and a mile deep, it took the river hundreds of millions of years. The canyon's so immense, it's almost overwhelming. That is partly why guided Grand Canyon excursions are such a good idea. The Grand Canyon National Park is huge, and there are so many interesting things to do and see; a guided tour is one sure way to make sure you can do it all. The Park's most popular areas are the West and South Rims. The West Rim is where you'll find several exciting experiences, including the famous Glass Bridge (the Grand Canyon Skywalk), the Indian Cultural Center, and Hualapai Ranch. On this rim you can also catch a chopper ride to the floor of the canyon and hop on a raft and float down the Colorado River. The South Rim is no less awesome, but the main attraction there is the scenic vistas. Both rims offer more than enough to keep you busy. You'll probably visit the rim that's closest to where you're starting from, but how much time and money you have available might also affect your choice. If you are starting out in Vegas, the West Rim might be a good choice since it is only about 120 miles away. The South Rim is close to the cities of Phoenix, Sedona, and Scottsdale in Arizona. But the South Rim is nearly 300 miles from Las Vegas. As you look at the various canyon tours, you will see you have many choices to make. For instance, you get to choose between a helicopter tour, or an airplane or bus tour; the helicopter tours can land or by fly-overs only. The time you have available as well as the amount of money you want to spend will help you figure out which tour you want to take. Each tour is a little different, but they are all spectacular and will give you the chance to see some amazing rock formations. The most thrilling tours would have to be the helicopter rides. The air-only flights are simply an experience you will always remember. But, if you'll be visiting the West Rim, I strongly suggest that you choose a tour that lands on the canyon floor (unfortunately, this option isn't possible at the South Rim). Once you're at the bottom, you can take a smooth-water rafting trip, enjoy a picnic lunch, or simply walk around and see the sights. Bus tours to the Grand Canyon are more affordable, although the buses are made especially for sightseeing and are quite comfortable. Bus tours are convenient, too, because most include free shuttle service at the Vegas Strip hotels. Many travelers choose airplane tours because the views are amazing and the flights don't need to take all day. If you are vacationing in Vegas and have a full itinerary, you will appreciate being able to squeeze in a tour of the Grand Canyon by airplane that doesn't take much of your time. Grand Canyon tours are the best way to see the wonders of the National Park. They're also cheaper than many people think, especially if you book your trip on the Internet.
