Halloween is an annual holiday that is observed on 31st October. This is the day on which various activities are done along with parties and other celebration. The origin of Halloween has been found in the Roman feast- Pomona which used to be known as the goddess of fruits and seeds. The similarity was also found in the festival of the dead that was known as Parentalia or the Samhain- the Celtic festival. The associations of symbols and artifacts with the Halloween got developed over the period of time. One of such very common and popular practice in the Halloween is the carving of “jack-o-lantern”. In Ireland and Scotland the carving was traditionally done with the turnips but in North America, the carving is done with the pumpkins as this the vegetable that is easily available during this time. There is no doubt that people would be looking forward towards Halloween 2012 to carve these jack o –lanterns out of pumpkins all over the world. The images used during the Halloween celebration are taken from different sources. Manny costumes have been inspired from the famous horror or fiction movies like Dracula, The Mummy or Frankenstein. The various elements that are found easily during the autumn season (when Halloween) is celebrated are used to decorate houses. These elements are pumpkins, corn husks, scarecrows etc. The orange and black color is used during Halloween and the various images used during Halloween are the symbols of death, evil and monsters found in different mythology. People all around the world are getting ready to celebrate the Halloween 2012. This is the day when the children look forward towards playing various types of pranks like treat or trick, watching horror movies, bon fires, apple bobbing, costume parties, carving jack-o’-lanterns, visiting various haunted theme parks or attractions. Special breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared on the Halloween day. The food prepared has those items which are easily available such as apple, pumpkin and others. Pumpkin pie, cakes and candy pumpkins are prepared during the festival. Many like to have the roasted pumpkin seeds on this day. This is day when people like to celebrate with their family and friends. Candy apples and caramel apples are also very common food item that are prepared during Halloween. The traditional food items like egg, cheese, mayonnaise and ketchup could be used to serve the food depicting the images of scary figures. For the people who would like to known when is the Halloween 2012 , it is 31st October, Wednesday.
