There are places that manage to charm themselves by virtue of their location and Fio is surely one of them. Located in the Garden of Five Senses, Fio can be best described as a piece of Mediterranean food restaurant in the heart of Delhi. The food only adds to the visual delight that Fio is and once you visit this place, this could very well become one of those places you’d save for special occasions. Imagine an old house with a huge garden and you come close enough to what Fio endeavours to be. The lush greenery enthralls to no end and you know this is a place that respects food. The food doesn’t fall short of the high expectations. A blend of classic Italian and the traditional Indian with a twist, the menu has everything that your palate could crave. Certainly a great place to dine in Delhi. The wood-fired pizzas are a specialty and for good reason. Served with a sweet portion of Rocket leaf salad, the pizzas are like what a pizza should ideally be--thin crust. Basilico E Bocconcini, garlic Bocconcini (egg-sized mozzarella cheese) served with basil, olives, jalapenos and sun-dried tomatoes is a must have as is the Pollo E Funghi, smoked chicken served with mushrooms and mozzarella. In the Indian section the Amritsari Gobi Aloo, a kebab preparation and Ajwani Fish Tikka are winners. The pricing is a little steeper than average but in the end it seems worth the amount. The ambience that blesses FIO is just the stuff dreams are made of. The joy of sipping a drink and enjoying the food amidst the open space with the night air filling your lungs is not going to leave you in haste. But the one big hitch is the base service. If only the good food and the great ambience were left untouched by the pathetic service… There is a certain slowness with everything that isn’t edible here, while this stillness in the surrounding exudes a wonderful feeling, the same can’t be said when it comes to the staff. This is a place where the server would look at you with sheer amazement when you place your order. It’s almost as if the person has been put in front of you by mistake.
