Sui Yida is a famous Chinese hat designer; many of his products get huge popularity in the world fashion circle. His design is famous for its characteristics and its unique style. Let’s get into the world of famous hat designer and find out the secret of his famous hat products. Interviewer: We just enjoy a group of your works; I have a deep love of these few hats. When the designer Anna Piaggi died, I have been asked to talk about the trend of hat in autumn and winter. At that time, in fact, I feel nothing important to talk about, because I have no interest in daily hat wearing. But at the same time, I’m fond of exaggerated lay hat. In my opinion, hat is an artistic existence, which is much more important than fashion clothes. Even if nobody wears it, it can also be an independent artwork for inhibition. The purpose is not for practical use and not let a person look outstanding. It is to express an aesthetic feeling for appreciation. What’s your opinion? Sui Yida: Art is everything beside us. The same object will display vitality when people give it different function on different occasions. The current society is full of great pressure, the pace of life is too fast, and there is little time for people to think about people himself and the essence of life. We need something that can touch our hearts, no matter clothing, accessories like crystal pendants on clothing, or works of art. This is what I have been doing; I also hope more people will work toward this direction. Interviewer: Hat is a part of fashion, compared with bags and shoes, hats in fact are often ignored by many stylists on many fashion shows. But why do you choose hat as the artistic pursuit and personal career? What brings you on this road? Sui Yida: Actually, the choice to do hat design is by chance, I began to learn Chinese painting when I’m five years old, and ten years later I began to learn western sketch, I had always wanted to be a painter or artist, then I become a modern designer be accident. When I graduated, I proposed a hat design to my teacher. So I started my first hat design, I made a series of hats, because of this series; I began to work with media. The reason why I choose to design hats is that hat has more space for me to display my creation than clothing, shoes and bags. Interviewer: Not long ago, we appreciate a group of fashionable hat design on a domestic fashion magazine. When did your work appear on media? What is the kind of opportunity? And what influence it brings to you? Sui Yida: The earliest hat was appeared in September 2009, a hat with metal feeling, all people thought it weird and too exaggerated, but I like it. Then I secretly took it to the studio to clap, and then this hat opened the door of my future, until now. Interviewer: Although I don’t know how you look at your own products, I draw a conclusion that your work style is beautiful. But this kind of beauty seems to stay in color and the structure of the formation. Have you ever thought to try more new style and other breakthrough or design more hats for all kinds of people and places? Sui Yida: Every hat is designed for a story; almost every hat has different crafts. I also will try more new materials and new techniques. On the next festival, I will put forward a new series, hat with Christmas characteristics decorated with Christmas jewelry. “Life should be energetic but not be inanition”, this sentence has always inspired me.
