What is the sum of what we have found from the first two chapters of the book of Hebrews? We found that man, when our great salvation is complete, is supreme over angels, because we have inherited a more excellent name than they. We have inherited the Name of Jesus Christ, the firstborn, by whom were created all things. We are told four times in Hebrews Chapter One that Jesus is God’s Son. And that after He by himself purged our sins is seated on the right hand of Majesty on high. We see very plainly in Hebrews Chapter 1 that a man is God, the man Christ Jesus, and he is seated on His throne of God forever. We have been brought into covenant with His name, just like a wife is covenanted into the name of her husband at marriage. This is why the Apostle Paul said in I Corinthians 3:21-22, “All things are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s” (a marriage before God) and I Corinthians 6:17, But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. And again in Romans 7:4, that you should be married to another, even to him that is raised from the dead. This was all done in the covenant God cut with man at the cross. It is a marriage covenant, where two have become one. God and man are now one in the man Christ Jesus, just like Eve was one in Adam when man was first created. The Apostle Paul called this a great mystery in Ephesians 5:22. He that loves his covenant partner loves himself. The two have become one by the blood of the covenant cup. Jesus said out of his own mouth, Shall I not drink this cup, referring to the cup of the marriage covenant, between Himself and the church, before Father God. In days of old, when two men would cut a covenant between themselves, each would cut the wrist and bind them together, to allow the blood of each to mingle together and become one blood. The scar on each man’s wrist was the sign these two are one with each other in a blood covenant that could not be broken. The covenant was defended, even unto death. This is what happened on the cross when the Son of man shed his blood. God and man became one flesh, and one spirit. Life is in the blood. The scars on the body of Jesus are an everlasting sign that this covenant shall never be broken. God and man are one in marriage. We are bone of His bone, and flesh of his flesh, through the marriage covenant at the cross. (This article is an excerpt from my Free E-book, Life From ON High) Download it at fredfishburne.com.
