Sealing Experts recommend that owners apply sealant to granite countertops before first use. However, if your granite is of a darker color, it may not need sealing. Most sealants are "wipe-on, wipe-off" and provide a level of protection from surface stains and scratches. Make a note of when to reapply the sealant; lighter color granites require resealing after about three years.
