Generalized anxiety disorder or GAD is becoming a common mental health problem around the world. It is more common among the young adults then more grown up adults and its percentage is high around the more developed western countries such as US, Europe, Australia then the developing third world countries. GAD is a pattern of constant worry and anxiety over many different activities and events. The main symptom is the almost constant presence of worry or tension, even when there is very little or no cause. Worries seem to transform from one problem to another, such as family problems, work issues, financial crisis, health, and other problems.Even whenaware that their worries or fears are much stronger than needed, a person with GAD still has difficulty controlling them. GAD is a common condition. Most of the cases genetics play a major role. Stress may also contribute to the development of GAD. Anyone can develop this disorder, even kids. Most people with the disorder report that they have been anxious for as long as they can remember. GAD occurs somewhat more often in women than in men. A person's genetics, biochemistry, environment, history, and psychological profile can all contribute to the development of anxiety disorders. Most people with these disorders seem to have a biological vulnerability to stress, making them more susceptible to environmental stimuli than the rest of the population. The goal of treatment is to help the person to function well during day-to-day life. A combination of medicine and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) works best. Medications are an important part of treatment. Once the person starts them, he or she should not suddenly stop taking them without talking with your health care provider.Avoiding caffeine, illicit drugs, and even some cold medicines may also help reduce symptoms. A healthy lifestyle that includes exercise, enough rest, and good nutrition can help reduce the impact of anxiety. For Details Go To: Generalized anxiety disorder
