A freelance programmer is a person who is an independent contractor in computer programming. The freelance programmer is not a regular employee and the programmers do not work for a particular employee. Salary pertaining to these freelance programmers is not fixed as that of the regular employee. The company or the employee hires freelance programmers to write programs for their computer applications to assist them in their work. The work of the freelance programmer is to write codes for a particular program in a language understandable by the computer and user friendly. For this to occur, freelance programmer has to test the program several times until it becomes error free and capable of executing the commands given by the user. Once, the program code is successful and run by the computer it should be well maintained. Based on the type of work Freelance programmers are hired as 1) Applications Freelance Programmer or 2) Systems Freelance Programmer. Applications Freelance programmer writes the code to execute the program related to smaller software and applications run on the computer whereas the systems freelance programmer writes the program for the whole software or databases required by the computer. A person may or may not have professional skills to become a freelance programmer. A person who has desire and interest in writing programs and solving the problems faced with coding can become a freelance programmer. One who assists some other employee while writing programs can have an opportunity of becoming an independent programmer or freelance programmer. A professional Freelance Programmer is the one who has learnt many computer languages and has an aim of settling as a programmer writing programs. The benefits of hiring a professional and skilful Freelance programmer is that there is minimum risk while writing the code for programs as the programmer updates his skills very often to make up to the current requirement. The freelance programmers are hired on hourly basis or weekly basis or for the completion of the project. The best way for these programmers to do freelance work is by writing the programs, sending it to the clients and requesting for their deposits. Certain freelance programmers may have a written contract of verbal agreements based upon the work. The payments for the freelance programmers can be outspoken initially or after certain completion or after the completion of the project. For bigger projects payments are generally made through milestones or based upon their completion. The advantages of working as a freelance programmer are – you can work for the employer or the company for as long as the contract is signed or agreed to. You can simultaneously work for other employers as well. The payment is upfront and as agreed by you and the employer. The payments are made regularly after the work is completed. There is no specific location required, i.e. you can work from any location you prefer to. The freelance programming is based on projects. Once the project gets completed you can do the other or you can look for the other employer and work for him.
