Throughout the years, fashion designers have obtained inspiration by the uniforms used in the military. Most of the designs became fads. Commercial pea coats were made from lighter wool instead of 30 oz woo of the original that were quite heavy for daily use. In terms of the color, the fashion versions of the original navy pea coats were made available in a variety of colors. Pea coats were also popular with women. Some changes were made to be able to make it attractive to this demographic. Pea coats for men have buttons on the left side while that of women are on the right. The jacket for women has six buttons unlike the weight that men’s coat has. Additionally, there were also more styles on coats for women which feature a more tailored fit around the waste, accentuating the figure of a woman. Today, authentic navy pea coats are still available in military surplus stores at affordable prices.
