Treatment for Mono - How to Treat Mononucleosis

Health

Mononucleosis – also known as simply ‘mono’ – has affected millions of people around the world. If you think you’re suffering from mono, then keep reading. Today, we’re going to describe symptoms of mononucleosis as well as the best ways to treat mono after becoming infected.

What causes mono?

Mono is nicknamed ‘the kissing disease’ for a reason. It’s spread through the transmission of saliva from one person to another. Of course, two people don’t have to kiss in order to spread saliva, and mono is often spread from one person to another through sharing food or drinks.

After receiving the mono virus, it’s in the body for life. However, most people will not experience the effects of mono more than once, and those who get mono at a young age might never know that they’re infected.

Mono symptoms

In general, those who get mono at an older age suffer far worse than those who get mono when they’re younger. However, both young and old mono sufferers experience the following symptoms:

-Sore throat

-Severe exhaustion

-Swollen lymph nodes

How to treat mono

Mono is an incredibly frustrating illness. It attacks the body and leaves the victim feeling extremely fatigued. It’s not unusual for mono sufferers to lie in bed for most of the day, and fatigue symptoms can last for anywhere from a few days to an entire month.

Here are a few tips that will help you treat mono and make the symptoms more manageable:

-Gargle salt water frequently to alleviate the pain of a sore throat

-Drink lots of fluids

-Don’t push the body past its limits if feeling fatigued. Get lots of rest until the symptoms of mono pass.

-Avoid physical activities and exercise

-Eat foods that boost the immune system, like citrus fruits and other foods high in vitamin C

If you or someone in your household is suffering from mono, it’s important to avoid exchanging any saliva with them. Wash any dishes that they use thoroughly, and never eat or drink from the same container.

Although some people want to ‘push through’ their mono symptoms and continue living a normal life, this is not recommended. Moving around too much when suffering from mono can cause a ruptured spleen, so it’s best to stay in bed and get lots of rest until the symptoms have completely disappeared.

When should you seek medical attention for mono

If you think you’re suffering from mononucleosis, visit a doctor as soon as possible. Although mono isn’t a deadly disease, its symptoms can be debilitating, and a medical professional can recommend the best course of treatment for your illness. In some cases, medication will be the best option, while in other cases, the doctor will simply recommend plenty of rest.

If your Atlanta family doctor isn’t currently available, then you can seek treatment for mono at any urgent care facility in the city. Atlanta’s network of urgent care clinics has been providing effective treatment to patients for all sorts of different illnesses and injuries.

Thanks to urgent care, patients have been able to avoid the length wait times of emergency rooms. For example, one of the best urgent care clinics Atlanta, WellStreet, promises that the average visit lasts just 45 minutes. Visit the WellStreet official website today for more information about urgent care solutions in our city.
