The Canary Islands, Spain’s territory, are fondly referred to as the happy islands. This may be because of the fun times that are experienced in the region. It is believed to have been the home of the Atlantis which is quite legendary. The initial inhabitants of the islands are the Guanches. They are white skinned and are quite tall. The islands became a part of the territory of Spain sometime in 1496. Columbus ships anchored here as they travelled to the new world. The Canary Islands’ climate can be simply referred to as eternal springtime. The temperatures vary as the seasons change. The change is some 6oC. Average temperatures at the islands can be said to be 18o-24oC. The area is therefore the best place to enjoy water based activities including swimming. It is also quite a good place for sunbathing and the best news yet is that this can be done at absolutely any time of the year. The location of the islands is not too far from the tropic of cancer. The African coast is also not far off. The climate therefore remains to be subtropical. There are also some very high mountains that are very close to the beach areas creating the most spectacular sceneries ever seen. Some of the mountain peaks are snow caped adding to the attraction value. The water temperatures also vary as the seasons change but the drop is some 3 degrees Celsius.
