When buying a Country-Specific or Global SIM-card, one should ensure that their cell phone is unlocked and is compatible with the destination country's radio frequency. Most cell phones are restricted (locked) to work only on the network of the service provider from where one has bought their primary number. They essentially program the phone so that it won't work on other carriers' network. In most cases, though, consumers can unlock their phones by typing in a special sequence of keystrokes so that the phone will work on other carriers' SIM cards.
