A 5-District Itinerary for a 1-Day Tour Around Manila, Philippines

Travel & Tourism
Searching for a day-trip itinerary around Manila, Philippines? Look no further with this list of sites to prioritize seeing. With it, you only have to visit 5 districts in one day to get to know the complex, vibrant, and dynamic capital.

Let's say you're thinking about booking an accommodation in Manila for your short yet much-awaited break from work or school. The good thing is, you have chosen one of the best cities to be in, considering the number of interesting attractions waiting for you. However, a day may be too short, especially when trying to get to know a city as complex and dynamic as Manila. Stop worrying, because we have just the right itinerary for you. By following our 5-district tour, you can make sure that you will get to see the best of the Philippine capital.

1. Binondo
Known for being the site of the world's oldest Chinatown, Binondo is a good spot from which to begin your trip around Manila, particularly if you are a foodie. This is because it is where you'll find the most authentic Chinese dishes in the country. Enter Wai Ying for a mouthwatering bowl of roasted duck congee, Dong Bei for some juicy dumplings, and Masuki for a serving of steaming beef wanton noodles. In addition, Binondo is adjacent to Divisoria, Manila's bargain mecca, so you're also in for the best shopping deals.

2. Sampaloc
From Divisoria, take a jeepney ride along Claro M. Recto Avenue to Nicanor Reyes Street, and you'll reach the heart of the country's premier University Belt — Sampaloc. Here, you will find some of the nation's largest educational institutions, like the 17th-Century University of Santo Tomas – the oldest university in Asia. Another sight to behold is Far Eastern University, which was given the UNESCO Heritage Award for having the most art deco buildings in the Philippines. Indeed, taking a stroll in this education district is worth the every second spent outside your comfy Manila accommodation.

3. Intramuros
Another short jeepney ride to Lawton from Espana Boulevard will bring you to Intramuros, the country's historic walled city. This was the seat of government during the Spanish colonial era, and entering its gates will still take you back in time, with its pebbled streets and resident calesas. Many will agree that riding these horse-drawn carriages – or simply going on foot – within its territory is one of the things everyone should do in Manila.

4. Ermita
Take the Puerto Real exit in Intramuros, and take a cab ride along Roxas Boulevard. In no time, you will be in Ermita, one of the capital's first districts. You will not regret that you stepped out of your Manila hotel to visit this place, as it is home to some of the biggest tourist attractions in town. There is Luneta, a park dedicated to the country's national hero, as well as various museums, big shopping centers, and nightlife spots.

5. Malate
You'll reach your last stop after only a few minutes' walk from Ermita. If there is a most welcoming district in the metropolis, it would be Malate. It has bar-studded streets that come alive at night, restaurants that will take you on a journey around the globe, and hotels that offer the best service. Surely, this district is an ideal place to pick an accommodation in Manila and tuck yourself under the sheets to cap a jam-packed day around the city.
