Aesthetic plastic surgery, also called Medical aesthetics involves techniques intended for the ‘enhancement’ of appearance through surgical and medical techniques and is specifically concerned with maintaining normal appearance, restoring it or enhancing it beyond the average level towards some aesthetic level. For one industry that has evolved over the years is the plastic surgery. From the industry only reserved for the wealthiest people, it has now become accessible to a number of people and has evolved into two types, with nearly half a million surgical procedures happening every day. Types of Cosmetic Surgery There are basically two kinds of cosmetic surgery procedures available today; Invasive and Non- Invasive. Invasive Cosmetic surgery includes things such as skin resurfacing through peels, lasers and Dermabrasion, Botox injections, hair removal with laser treatments, invasive plastic surgery comprises of procedures like liposuction, face lifts, breast implants and tummy tuck. Cosmetic Surgeries for Women Women account for almost 90 per cent of cosmetic surgery patients. Common surgeries being breast implants face lifts, liposuction and abdominoplasty. Women now choose to combine several cosmetic surgery procedures at once. For example these days ‘mommy makeovers’ are gaining popularity. These combine a couple of surgical procedures such as breast implants or breast lift with liposuction or abdominoplasty. Tummy tuck with a thigh lift can also be done, but this increases the cost and recovery time. The most common and popular type of cosmetic surgery are from the Noninvasive category and include procedures such as Botox injections, skin filler injections, laser hair removal. These services are also available at spas but mostly women chose to get it from a board of certified cosmetic surgeon. Cosmetic Surgery for Men Even though men account for only 10 per cent of the whole cosmetic surgery drama, the rate at which men are choosing to get more procedures done is already double to that of increase for women. The most common types of cosmetic surgeries for men too remain the non-invasive, comprising of Botox injections, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion and skin filler injections with hyaluronic acid or collagen in the lines of the face. Common sorts of cosmetic surgery in the Invasion category include liposuction, eyelid surgery. Nose jobs (rhinoplasty), male breast reduction cases of gynecomastia and hair transplant. Cosmetic Surgery Types by Age Nearly 50 per cent of all cosmetic surgery procedures were received by those aged 35 to 50 and the most common type of cosmetic surgery was liposuction. In the category of age 51 to 64 years, the most common type was eyelid surgery and people of this age group involved about 25 percent of all cases. Those aged 19 to 34 were most likely to get breast augmentation or laser hair removal and accounted for just over 20 percent of procedures performed. With the dawn of more and more types of cosmetic surgery and choices for non-surgical cosmetic treatments, the number of procedures performed each year has been rising by around 7 percent and continues to grow as more people wish to improve their appearance by one kind of cosmetic surgery or another.
