Decorating a small bathroom, whether it is a half bath, or just a tiny room in an apartment or small house, can be challenging. But just because the room is small, doesn't mean that it cannot have style. Choosing the right colors for the stone wall, flooring and accessories can make even the smallest bathroom feel like a relaxing spa or a sumptuous retreat. Pale Colors Pale colors in cool shades tend to reflect light and can make any space feel larger. Choose a cool pale blue or lavender for your small bathroom and pair it with light- or white-painted wood cabinets and accessories for a bright, clean space. Pale blue is a common color for spa-inspired bathroom, but other light shades of nature- inspired colors can also create a relaxing environment. Shades of pale green and gray are also soothing and can help your small bathroom feel larger. Limit the number of colors you use in the small bathroom to prevent a color overload; keeping the palette to two colors maintains the relaxing and restful feeling. Bright Colors A small bathroom is a good place to try out bolder colors that you might hesitate to use in a larger room. A large room painted lime green or hot pink might feel overwhelming, but small rooms are the ideal place to experiment with a bold punch of color. If painting the whole room in a shocking hue like bright orange feels like it would be too much, paint one accent wall with the dramatic hue and the remaining walls in a less shocking shade of the same color, or highlight the contrast by painting the remaining walls white. Neutrals You can almost never go wrong with neutral paint colors, especially in small rooms. Shades of white and cream create a clean look, while beige, tan and taupe coordinate with most bath accessories. Gray is an often overlooked neutral shade, and creates a sophisticated backdrop. Choose neutral paint that coordinates with your fixtures and cabinetry. Avoid mixing cool and warm neutral shades to prevent clashing and a look that is not cohesive. Deep Shades Contrary to popular belief, painting the walls of a small bathroom in a deep, dramatic tone will not make the room feel smaller, particularly if you use different values of the same color or add texture to the walls. Deep shades of green, blue, brown, purple and even black can work in a small room if you use them to enhance features in the room or add architectural interest where there isn't any. For example, if your bathroom is shaped like a rectangle, paint the shorter walls in a deep hunter green, and the longer walls in a lighter shade of green to make the room appear more balanced.
