Transfers from Geneva to Morzine take just over an hour – or perhaps a little longer at peak times. That's a short journey to whisk you to what is bound to be a wonderful skiing experience for you. Destination Morzine This one is something different to some of the other resorts. The first thing to recognise is that it is both a commune and a town. In France, a commune is a small administrative area (though perhaps large in geographical terms) with a town that is regarded as the administrative centre. A commune might, in fact, have a number of towns and villages within it and although it may share the name of its administrative centre, that town need not any longer be the largest in the commune. In this case, the town itself is traditional in design and layout, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The fact that its history goes back until at least the 12th century, coupled with its traditional buildings, means that it’s a very pleasing sight as you arrive on the Geneva to Morzine transfer - and that’s not necessarily the case with all ski resorts! Skiing Of course, great as the local town ambiance and architecture is, you’re probably here for the skiing or summer sports more than anything else. The resort itself has a large amount of what might be termed beginner to intermediate skiing. That makes it hugely popular with gentle skiers and families. As there’s a family emphasis, of sorts, you’ll probably find living prices here are perhaps more reasonable than in some other, more exclusive resorts that target the big-spending skiers. However, it’s a fact of life that prices in ski resorts are higher that you might be used to paying elsewhere – and it’s just about always been like that. If you like more demanding skiing, a local bus will take you just a few minutes away to the lifts that will take you to the higher altitude Avoriaz resort (also in the same commune) where you’ll find more demanding runs. Both centres are part of what’s called the “Portes du Soleil” – a vast area covering resorts in France and Switzerland. There are dozens of black runs in this wide area and you can go into Switzerland on some runs. These resorts also cater well for boarding and other related snow sports – you won’t be stuck for things to do on snow. Lively or pas? This resort is typically regarded as having a good and lively nightlife with plenty of venues to choose from. It’s perhaps not riotous, if that’s what you’re looking for, but you’ll find good music, food and late night dancing. There’s also a cinema where you’ll find both French and foreign language films, if you find you’re getting bored with all the eating, drinking and dancing. All in all, you'll find that your transfer from Geneva to Morzine drops you at a charming town and one where you’ll have a great holiday – winter or summer.
