Yesterday, the patent holding company located in the U.S. state of Texas EON Corporation IP Holdings (hereinafter referred to as the “EON”) submitted patent litigation files to the Federal District Court of the Eastern District of Tyler, Texas, claiming that Apple’s products have infringed four patents held by the company. The documents of patent litigation filed by EON are mainly for Apple’s software services such as iTunes and the App Store, as well as hardware devices related to these services such as the Apple TV, iPod Touch, all iPhones after iPhone 3G and all iPad products. EON said in the indictment that these Apple devices have infringed a key patent held by him, involving “a user metadata of data processing station with video interactive features”. EON claimed that in the end of 2011 and in August this year, it indirectly informed Apple in the way of letters through AT & T and Puerto Rico Telephone Company. The company said that Apple used EON’s patent in the case of being unauthorized, which had infringed EON’s patent. But Apple did not pay attention to their words. EON also said that part of the Apple devices have infringed three other wireless technology patents of the company. Those lawsuits mainly involve Wi-Fi accessories of Apple such as Airport Extreme, Airport Express router and so on. The predecessor of EON was a company called TV Answer. The main business of the company is to conduct interactive polls and shopping control through the receiver and the Unicom network. In the 1990s, the company had experienced a business failure. Since then, the company had gradually transformed into a patent licensing company. In the indictment, EON pointed out that many major competitors of Apple had paid the using fees of patent technology, so it also asked Apple to pay monetary compensation.
