FAIRFIELD -- With the opening of Aristokatz Veterinary Care forCats in Fairfield, cat lovers and their pets will have a place togo free of dogs that can spook the cats on vet visits. "Everything has been designed to treat cats and their owners likeroyalty," Dr. Geri Katz , owner and veterinarian of Aristokatz, said. After many clients to whom Katz provided service through housecalls asked her to open her own clinic, she felt it was the rightthing to do. It only took a year for Katz to get the idea moving and to open aclinic this April that catered solely to the needs of felines. Katz said that many clients complain about going to generalveterinarians where dogs are in the waiting room. "When owners andtheir cats come to the vet and they are in the waiting room withdogs sniffing the cage, it provokes more anxiety," Katz said. "Ithink people like the whole feeling of someone specializing in justtheir animal." At Aristokatz, Katz provides a full-service hospital includingannual preventive check-ups, vaccines if necessary, dental workwith state-of-the-art dental equipment, X-rays and many otherservices that cats might need. If there is something she cannot do, Katz will either bring in orrecommend a specialist. Given her expertise gained from 16 years in the veterinarybusiness, Katz said she believes in annual check-ups and urgesclients to bring their cats in regularly. "People won't bring their cats in since they think the cats arefine," Katz said. "Cats are very self-sufficient, very quiet, andthey don't show pain until late." Clients such as Beth Carter , of Fairfield, are excited about a clinic that is solely for cats. After bringing one of her six felines to Katz, she is planning onbringing all of them. "Dr. Geri called me to make sure she [her cat] was OK that night,"Carter said. "She goes beyond the call of duty." Katz also focuses on nutritional needs. She said that manyveterinarians push for steroids and vaccines when there couldsimply be a nutritional issue. "Dr. Geri is very gentle and mild mannered, which is good for catssince they tend to be high strung," Dee Skott , a client from Fairfield, said. Skott said that Katz is verythorough and easy to work with, so she enjoyes the experience atAristokatz. "I want people's cats to have a really good quality of life," Katzsaid. "We are their best advocates since they don't advocate forthemselves." For information call 203-690-1099 or visit the clinic at 636 KingsHighway East in Fairfield.
