BEIJING, Jun 08, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- By the end of 2011, theworld held a total of 3.72 million data centers, and more than halfof them were located in US and Europe. On the whole, the Centraland Eastern Europe, part of Asia-Pacific, North America and WestEurope ranked high, but their room for further increase is limited, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.8% during the past threeyears. By contrast, emerging markets such as Asia-Pacific andAfrica that have seen a compound growth rate as high as 14.2% willbe the biggest drive for the growth of the whole industry. Competition Trend: Operators will lead the IDC market Cloudcomputing will be the core of the information service system in thefuture. Restrained by the network support and safeguard capability, cloud computing cannot bring consumers efficient, convenient andsafe service experiences unless it is seamlessly integrated withthe wired and wireless networks. Therefore, the three giant telecomoperators will become the major force of China's cloud computingwith their comprehensive data center nodes, unique wireless/wirednetwork access capability and rich consumer and channel resources. As part of the IaaS infrastructure of cloud computing, data centeris key to the implementation of cloud computing. In 2011, amongChina's IDC companies were service providers who rent telecomresources (30%), telecom operators (50.3% ) and corporate operators(19.7%). The telecom operators taking the largest share areactively involved in the midstream and downstream businesses of theIDC industry while holding the upstream resources. China's three major telecom operators have launched theirrespective cloud computing strategy, namely China Mobile's "BigCloud", China Telecom's "eSurfing" and China Unicom's "Wo Cloud(Power-All Cloud)", each based on their own data centers. On theother hand, the average utilization ratio of servers used byindustry consumers is no more than 15%, while the operation andmaintenance cost is rather high. Almost 80% of the informationsystem and O&M work is focused on basic services including theinstallation, commissioning, debugging and maintenance of systemsoftware. In this case, it is possible for the three major telecomoperators to cut cost and increase working efficiency by providinggroup and industry clients with services including mobile office, production control and marketing services via SMS and voiceservices. Bottleneck: Lack of large data centers China's existing datacenters take up 12% of the global total. However, its large datacenters with more than 500 racks only account for only 5% of theglobal total, while the figure is 50% in US. In terms of the numberof servers, there were a total of 45 million x86 servers around theworld's data centers in 2011, 16 million of which were in the USand 3.5 million in China. In 2011, 52% of China's IDC serviceproviders held 500 servers or below in their data centers; 12.4%had between 500 and 1,000 servers; 5.3% had between 1,000 and 2,000servers; 19.1% had between 2,000 and 5,000 servers; and only 11.2%had 5,000 servers and above. In addition, data centers are facing various challenges. Datacenters need to re-evaluate the energy efficiency and innovatetheir products and technologies as the rising power prices bringpower consumption and radiation challenges. Meanwhile, they also need to reflect on how to construct a safe ITinfrastructure to deal with the increasingly complicated IT systemsand mass data. Under the circumstances, a smart renovation of datacenters will be highly desirable. About CCID Consulting Co., Ltd.
