Delta Air Lines is one of the biggest American airlines. It has been on the market since 1924. The company started operating in 1929. It happened to be a part of the aviation boom which took part in the United Stated in the 1920s. Since 2009 Delta is based in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, there its main hub is located. Today Delta with Northwest Airlines, they were merged in 2008, is considered to be one of the world's largest commercial airlines, according to airlines reviews. Delta Air Lines has some specific features or distinctions. As airlines reviews showed, it is the only American airline which is offering service and is carrying passengers to and from all six inhabited continents. In addition, Delta is the only major American airline with regular service to destinations in Africa. Delta has a fleet of over 1,000 aircrafts. The hub of Delta Airlines in Atlanta is one of the busiest in the world. A great number of the transatlantic flights originate there. Accept the main one and due to its size, Delta also operates some smaller hubs. There are some in New York City's – John F. Kennedy International Airport, in Salt Lake City as well as Cincinnati. However, the planes happened to be too large for the needs of the company. They were sold off and replaced by Lockheed TriStars in 1973. One year before, in 1972, Northeast Airlines became a part of Delta Airline which allowed expanding to the northeast United States where the presence of Delta had been kind of limited. With this move the company established a presence on America's West Coast In 1975 Delta Air Express shipping service was introduced to the public which played very important role for the growth of the company. And In 1981, Delta was one of the first airlines which were able to offer a frequent-flyer program to the public. In the 1990s and early-2000s Delta Airlines experienced some financial difficulties which were caused by rising prices for jet fuel first of all. So Delta had to cut jobs and reduce its flight offerings in order to save some money. In 2005, Delta had to sell off its Atlantic Southeast branch. The same year in the fall Delta Air Lines filed for federal bankruptcy protection. But no matter what the company is still on the market.
