Here at the Leisureplex Hotel Group we pride ourselves on the quality of our accommodation and each year spend a substantial amount of money maintaining our 20 properties many of which are listed buildings of significant importance. Our latest purchase in February 2012 of the Queens Hotel in Blackpool in particular has seen considerable investment. All of the bedrooms have been updated with 22” flat screen TVs, hair dryers, hospitality trays, bedroom curtains, bedspreads and beds. We are particularly pleased with the new beds which have been so well received that some guests have even asked to purchase them for home! We have also invested in the infrastructure of the kitchen with various new items of kitchen equipment and refrigeration. The leisure centre has been equipped with a new de-humidifier and new lockers are about to arrive. We have also improved the car parking and created space for coaches to park at the rear of the hotel so that they do not obscure the view from the front of the hotel. We are now entering the next phase of renovations. A good deal of investment will be in the "back of house" infrastructure to improve the fire precautions and make sure everything works as it should. We are re-covering large sections of the roof and replacing the two principal fire escapes and the entire heating plant. We are also installing a new pressurised water system which will counteract the notoriously uneven local mains water pressure and ensure high water pressure throughout the hotel at all times. The combination of the new heating plant and the water pressurisation will ensure guests receive a first class shower at all times, even in top floor rooms. We are also replacing the current 5 person lift with two larger lifts side by side in a new shaft with an extended lobby area to ease congestion. New automatic front doors combined with the extended lobby area will give a more professional impression on arrival at the hotel. This next phase also includes the creation of several additional en-suite bedrooms taking the number of en-suite bedrooms to 111. We will also be re-wiring & re-decorating several of the existing bedrooms and refurbishing a number of bathrooms. We have already carried out extensive improvements to the bedroom windows and other rooms will receive new double glazed windows this spring. In common with most hotels of its age, the Queens suffers from creaky floorboards. We will be installing new carpet in many bedrooms and undertaking works to eliminate creaky floorboards wherever possible. All bedrooms will receive new chairs. The new enlarged lift shaft will require some alterations and redecoration in the lounge and this will be complemented by new furniture. Leisureplex Managing Director, Paul Sawbridge commented: "This is only the second phase of our plans for the Queens and will take our expenditure on improvements in the past year to a little under £1m. We have concentrated on making sure everything works properly and so a good deal of the expenditure is not immediately visible. However, it won’t take long for guests to appreciate the great showering experience, superb beds and improved soft furnishings. We are already experiencing strong demand from returning clients – both clients who have visited our other hotels and are curious to see the Queens and also loyal clients of the Queens who appreciate the improvements we have already made. We are confident we can look forward to a good summer season in 2013 and look forward to making further improvements next winter." In fact Leisureplex spends almost three times the industry average on hotel improvements such as redecorating and re-carpeting a number of public rooms as well as refurbishing at least 10% of our hotel rooms annually. All 20 Leisureplex Hotels enjoy the best possible locations in their respective resorts and each individual property has great character. Whichever hotel you choose you can be sure of the same standards of clean rooms, good quality décor, bright modern bathrooms and attention to the small details that make all the difference to your stay.
