Installed on the roof deck, in the band joists and wall cavitiescontaining plumbing and wiring, areas that are problematic forstandard insulation, Icynene will tighten the structure, reduce airinfiltration and deliver a healthier and more energy efficienthome. Habitat Charlotte's dedicated staff and volunteers built a qualityhome with an eye on environmental sustainability. These homes arebuilt to LEED standards and certified Energy Star, measuresdesigned to help Habitat homeowners optimize operating costs fortheir homes.
"To become involved in a project such as Habitat Charlotte closelyaligns with Icynene's core values and we are thrilled to have beenable to be part of this project. Through the use of anenvironmentally-sound insulation solution like Icynene LD-C-50, theowners of this new home can reduce the need of excessive heatingand cooling during peak periods and significantly reduce theirmonthly utility expenses," said Icynene President and CEO HowardDeck. "We insulated the underside of the roof deck with a highperformance air barrier, instead of batt insulation on the atticfloor, so we essentially put a cap on this home. This brings themechanical equipment and duct work into a friendlier environmentand keeps the air that you are paying for inside the buildingenvelope," said Tim Kennedy of Healthy Home insulation, the Icynenecontractor working with Habitat Charlotte.
"This homeowner will no longer have those extreme attictemperatures experienced with traditional vented attics; the sprayfoam insulated unvented attic will maintain even temperaturesthroughout the year. The incremental expense to securely insulate the home with Icynenespray foam is more than offset with energy savings meaning positivecash flow for the consumer.
