Some pharmacies in Beijing said Tuesday they had contacted thecompany to place orders for the so-called "anti-swine fluprotection." "We've ordered the company to recall those already distributedon the market," Yan said. The Ministry of Health asked the public to be alert to scamsthat take advantage of public fear of the disease. Ministry spokesman Mao Qun'an clarified on Tuesday that "allqualified facial masks for medical use can help prevent germs andthe infection of H1N1 flu." Folk remedies like eating garlic and ginger are believed tohelp boost immunity to ward off all infections, including the H1N1virus. As a result, the price of garlic has risen several times overthe last year, reports have said.
"But it's more of past experience and traditional habit," saidHe Xiong, deputy director of the Beijing Center for DiseasePrevention and Control.
