Dear friends, do you know how to build laminate cabinets in the daily life? As we know, wood laminate creates the effect of wood grain without the expense of actual wood pieces. Laminate is easy to install on cabinet surfaces, taking an average of half a day for a full kitchen. The key to remember when selecting cabinets to laminate is that the cabinets must be plain, without any decorative angles or carvings, as the laminate will not stick to these surfaces. Instructions as follows: Firstly, determine the necessary size of your cabinet by measuring the cabinet space with a tape measure. Secondly, draw out the necessary dimensions and determine the surface area amount of wood. Remember that you'll want two sides, a back and a cabinet front. The top of the kitchen cabinet will be countertop. Take into account the doors, which will add some surface area to the front. If you are having trouble creating your own sketch, try looking at your existing cabinets or at an online building or cutting plan. Thirdly, measure, draw and cut your wood into the desired size for the cabinet pieces. Fourthly, plane a space into the side edges where the front and back will connect. Be sure and plane a mating piece into the front and back pieces so that the entire cabinet fits together like a jigsaw puzzle. Fifthly, glue the cabinet pieces together with wood glue and add finishing nails every 6 inches for added support. Sixthly, take the cabinet door and casing to your workspace for sanding. Sand as much as you can outside because you are going to make a great deal of dust from the old laminate. Wear a mask when sanding to protect yourself from the sawdust. Seventhly, sand the wood with an orbital sander and 60-grit sandpaper. Be sure to remove any sharp edges or imperfections and give the entire surface some texture for the laminate glue to stick to. Eighthly, measure and cut the laminate pieces to fit the cabinet doors and casings. Test lay each piece before you remove the adhesive covering. Ninthly, pull off the adhesive covering and press the laminate into position. Tenthly, run a hot iron over the laminate to trigger the glue and follow the iron with a roller to ensure that the laminate is firmly in place. Eleventh, screw the door hinges onto the cabinet first and then line them up with the door. Tips & Warnings Cabinet building is an advanced woodworking project. Unless you already have experience with planers and table saws, you may wish to consider purchasing unfinished cabinets instead and placing the laminate onto the surface.
