There are many different types of license plate frames. Most are simply used to add a bit of style and personality to your vehicle. I got one of my license plate frames when I graduated college and it represents the university I attended. There are many license plate frames that have catchy words like bumper stickers and many come from the dealership where the car was purchased. But there are useful reasons to get a specific frame as well. There are many protective frames that are designed to defend your plates when driving off road or through wild country. Some of the most valuable license plate frames are designed to defend the vehicle as well as the license plate itself. They are designed with thick foam rubber that is weather proof (won't rust or leave rust marks) and scratch proof, meaning that should the front of the vehicle come in contact with another vehicle it will help absorb the shock and prevent scratching or damaging of either of the vehicles. It is a thick foam that extends 2 to 3 inches away from that bumper of the car. It has a recessed screw designed to make sure that there is no metal sticking out of the plate frame. It also has what is called pyramid design architecture. It implements steep angles that give the bumper guard a subtle appearance, increasing flexibility and shock absorption. Some of the stylized plate frames that I've seen include the names of favorite sports teams, or they can feature the logo and make of the vehicle. Sadly I have seen a Cadillac license plate frame on a Buick. Not that either of those companies are bad, but I was almost positive the driver wasn't aware that he had mismatched them. Other unique designed I've seen include palm tree design, sexy girls design, and a great golf design which appears that the frame is shaped by a golf club bent into a rectangle that holds the license plate in place. Many find that using a license plate frame specifically for the plate on the front end of the vehicle is useful. The reason for this is that many states require a plate to be on both ends of the car. But not all cars are designed to have screw holes in the front. They make relocation bracket frames that are designed to be lower profile and use less damaging attachment devices on the bumper. Many drivers find that a heavy plate frame like a heavy cast zinc or steel frame keeps the plate from fluttering in the wind. Believe it or not some have found that a fluttering license plate can eventually add nicks to the paint on the front bumper of the car. Others have reported that a license plate frame prevents your plate from getting bent or ripped off by cars parking too closely. In some areas where parking is very tight, it is common for other vehicles to nick or catch on license plates. A good license plate frame prevents your car from getting damaged by this minimally invasive, but annoying impacts. Another use for license plate frames is as an advertisement. Companies can provide license frames with their logo. In bumper to bumper traffic drivers tend to notice every detail of the car in front of them out of sheer boredom. Might as well make it an opportunity to advertise or brand your company. This also makes for nice corporate gifts for employees or clientele. A useful item that also reminds people of your business. Most however, end up getting a license plate frame for mostly style purposes. To show off their taste or favorite sports teams.
