Practical Article Writing Tips

Education
Have a conversation. When you write an article, write it as if you are having a conversation with a friend, colleague or family member. If you write in this way, you are not only making your reader feel involved in what they are reading, but you also invite feedback on what you wrote. Introduce yourself. Let me ask you something. If you were walking down the street and a total stranger just walked up to you and started telling you all about the benefits of, let's say, the latest Samsung Phone, without any kind of introduction, how would you feel about that person? You would probably think, Ok, who left the door open at the asylum right. Now picture the same scenario but this time, the stranger walks up, introduces himself, tells you where he is from and tells you he is seeking opinions on some of the benefits of the latest Samsung phone, and after showing you what the phone can do, asks for your opinion, How would you feel then? An introduction creates a personal connection to your reader, so introduce yourself, it can be as simple as Hello Everyone, Hi Gang, Good Morning Readers, Hello Campers use the greetings you use with friends or family. What to write about. The topic of your article could be anything, from a current news story or event, or something that happened to you recently, to a manual on how to eat jelly beans for maximum flavour, or How to trim your poodles butt hairs, whatever. The trick to writing a good article is to use the following formula, and answer the following questions. Of course adjust each question to whatever your article is about, Is it advice, To sell a product, to teach a principle? Whatever. Who: Who is your article intended for? Who will benefit from your article? What: What is your article about? What is the aim of your article? What will your readers learn? Where: Where can your readers learn more? Where can your article help your readers? In their life, job, love life? When: Can your readers use what they learn? When can your information benefit them? Why: Why will it help your readers? Why should they start benefitting straight away? How: How can they get it? How can they find out more? How can they buy It? Tell a story. Everybody loves a good story, if you can put what you want your readers to know in the framework of a story, not only will you connect better with your readers but they will remember it for longer, it will have more impact. Tell it just like you were telling it to a family member, in other words, tell it in your own words. Use Humour. Humour can help keep your readers interested, and make them keep reading. Don't try to be Robin Williams, but inject a little humour. Of course if your story is about a meteor that is about to wipe out mankind, you may want to temper it a bit. In that case I would add sincerity, and probably a touch of blind panic, after all, if the worlds going to be wiped out, why the hell are you writing an article. Keep it positive Despite the above scenario, keep your articles positive and focus on the benefits it can bring. Most of us read things on the web, because we are looking for a solution. How to cook a cake, a walk-through for the latest game, how to repair a relationship for example, what do you search for? If you can give advice that helps to solve a problem, or benefit your readers in some ways, they will keep coming back for more. Make it relevant: If you did a search for a way to stop your cat from getting hair-balls, and you end up with an article on let's say "How To Cuddle A Hedgehog" You would probably be pretty annoyed. Keep your information relevant, stay on topic, stick to the benefits. There you go. If you follow these practical article writing tips and examples you will be writing articles, like a man or woman possessed in no time.
